About 5 years ago, I decided to open a business in downtown Whitefish Montana. I have been a working artist here for over 20 years and an opportunity to open my own gallery became a reality. My building was completely unfinished and nowhere close to being ready for a new business. Before I hired a painter or a flooring specialist or a tile layer or an electrician or anyone else, I knew I needed someone to help me create the space I wanted. My business is critically dependant on presentation and as a designer myself I know that balance, movement, color and overall composition was as important to our success as the quality of any painting I might decide to hang on our walls. I browsed and researched a lot of names and in the end I was most impressed with Carin's background and education in the area of feng shui. However, it was our very first meeting that convinced me she was perfect for the project.
I phoned Carin and we met at the space and later sat down for some lunch to talk about the "personality" I felt the site should have. Before meeting, I knew I wanted a gallery space that was both elegant and humble at the same time. I found Carin to be a complete personification of just those qualities. She was truly an embodiment of the sentiments I wanted to portray in my new business. Her knowledge of space, color palettes, traffic flow and ambiance were exceptional, but it was the process and personal attention to detail that cemented all things together. Carin Cross is not only an astute student of her craft, but she is simply a quality human being.
In our five years we have had visitors in our gallery from everywhere in the world and the most consistent statements we hear are about the warmth and comfort of our space. In one entry of our guest book a visitor from New York wrote, "The dismal weather during our visit was completely forgotten upon entering your gallery...what a warm and beautiful place to spend an afternoon". I think that says it all and I am ultimately confident that any who work with Carin will be as satisfied as I am.
